Everyday Drama: Philip-Lorca diCorcia

I just discovered this American photographer. I find his work is charged with drama –almost cinematic– taken from everyday situations and filled with normal people that are carefully staged and beautifully photographed. His pictures are a mix between documentary and fantasy. I read that he used to pay hustlers, drug addicts, and the homeless to be photographed on elaborated and carefully planned sets. He paid them with money granted by the NEA, the same organization that was censoring Robert Mapplethorpe at the time, which I find adds a bit of black humor to his work. Enjoy the work of DiCorcia.
